Computer Classes

McUMC will provide computer classes for seniors again in 2008 and 2009. If you have been wanting to learn how to use a computer for the first time or need help in using your computer better - sign up at the New To You Store!
Classes will consist of two hour classes, one night per week for four weeks during the months of November, 2008 and January, February and March 2009. The class size will be limited to four students per class with one instructor. Current class lessons planned are as follows:
Week 1: Learning your way around the computer. The class will deal primarily with introducing the student to using the computer for personal use around the home - the Windows desktop and file structure - opening and using common programs and opening and using files on your hard drive, floppy or CD.
Week 2: Learning to use a word processor like Microsoft Word to type a letter or address an envelope - saving your work to your hard drive or floppy - finding your files once you have saved them - introduction to some other Microsoft software.
Week 3: Accessing and surfing the internet - using email - virus and spyware protection.
Week 4: More internet and email practice - internet service providers - buying a personal computer and what to look for - laptops versus desktops - what do you really need in accessories?
